Although I didn't see him or his wonderful family anywhere near as much as I would have liked to, it was always apparent to me that Gareth was an exemplary human being. My fond childhood memories of visiting the Jones/Neal clan where Gareth would always welcome my mum and I with a perfect blend of mischevious humour, and genuine affection, are matched by my later appreciation for Gareth as a thinker. Not only did Gareth manage to convince me of the merit of Sociology, he along with his son, Robbie, and wife, Shirley, helped me with my personal statement and application to study it at University. Despite his prestige and success, I will always amazed by Gareth (and Shirl's) humility, compassion, and remarkable values which evidently survive in Rhian, Gemma, and Robbie. It was my privilege to know you, Gareth. You truly are an inspiration to me, more than you'd ever know. My thoughts are with Shirley, Rhian, Gemma, and Robbie. 'Joe Boy' X
