I am absolutely shattered to hear this news today. Gareth was my first ever boss. I worked for him at PolyGram International between 1993 and 1995 and then I relocated to Poland to work for Polygram Polska for another couple of years and liaised with him back at HQ. I will never forget our tour of the bars of Warsaw when he came out to visit our office over there. I fondly remember his warmth, charisma, ability to raise everyone's spirits and the way he made people feel so valued, not to mention how inspiring he was. He used to burst in to the office at St. James' square in full song (Love is all around by Wet Wet Wet was a particular favourite at the time) and was always upbeat no matter what was going off in his senior role. There was always a lovely vibe when he was around. His door was always open and he loved to have a joke. He used to say I reminded him of a young Deirdre Barlow and that I should take it as a compliment! Love him! I remember how proud he was of his family and when Robbie came along it was the icing on the cake. All of you were, without doubt, his greatest achievement. I am sending so much heartfelt love and deepest sympathies. The boy from the valleys as we fondly nicknamed him at work, will always be remembered with great affection xxxx
