Luke 19th January 2021

My heart goes out to Shirley, Rhian, Gemma, Robbie and the entire Jones clan. It was an absolute honour to have known Gareth. When I first started to make The Watchmakers Arms my local circa early 2016, I got to meet a whole load of people I wouldn't have otherwise met, including Gareth. In fact, I think he was the first person to ever buy me a drink at TWA. I found him to be a generous, thoughtful, quick-witted man with a fierce intellect and deep values centred around his family and community. He was both incredibly proud of where he came from and what he achieved in his life but he was especially proud of his family. It was always a delight to see him and he would always ask how I was doing. Before you even knew it, he had bought you a drink and you were suddenly deep in conversation righting the wrongs of the world. He showed a genuine interest in people and this is reflected perhaps by how many of us are paying tribute to Gareth, all using the same, similar sorts of words to describe our very fond memories of him. I believe he was quite partial to the 'fourth one down' and I think I will forever remember that as 'Gareth's drink' on the Watchmakers board. He will be missed but he will also be remembered, and rightly so.
