As a student at UEA in the early 1980s I was lucky enough to attend Gareth’s sociology lectures and seminars, and I remember him as a brilliant, enthusiastic, entertaining and hugely popular teacher. Reading these tributes to his incredibly full life, it’s heart-warming and impressive to learn how much he achieved personally and professionally since those UEA days 40 years ago. It also becomes painfully clear how much poorer this world will be without him. My sincere sympathy to Gareth’s loving family and friends in your tragic loss of such a remarkable man.
