I've been playing tennis doubles socially with Gareth over the last couple of years up at Dyke park. We'd get chatting a fair bit: from the game, to music, to what's going on with, and occasionally wrong with the world. I'd often sense his intelligence and wit, and found the conversations fun and inspiring. A top memory: last summer we had a charity day tournament in memory of one of the community. Many club members turned out in bright colours. Awarding the trophies at the end, I'd received the top spot. When the fundraising was announced, Gareth offered to match it in contribution. After, we spoke briefly about the cause, and the day, and he gave me the most genuine 'well done'; a great moment. I'll remember his influence well, and wish all the very best to his family and friends impacted by his passing.
