So sorry to see the obituary in The Guardian today, Gareth's mother, Gwen, was my godmother. Gwen and her husband Leslie were my parent's best friends in Cardiff. Gwen played a big part in my life including telling me to marry Margaret who had been my partner for over twenty years. We did what we were told. Gwen was an amazing character who lived an active life until nearly a hundred years of age. She was so proud of Gareth and we would always talk about his latest adventures and those of Glenys on our regular visits to her. Gwen and Leslie and my parents were friends and played a great part in my life over the years. Sympathy and best wishes to all the family.
