Amanda and Phil Hyde

Gareth was a dear friend and a kind and generous man. He will be sorely missed but there’s many happy memories that we have to cherish: going to the races, drinking champagne on a damp Saturday morning at a music festival, long lunches which somehow lasted until the evening, playing tennis with good friends. But my fondest memories are of going for a quick pint with Gareth – never quick and never just the one. We’d put the world to rights and I would learn a lot: obscure jazz musicians, Karl Marx, football, politics – nothing was off the menu and Gareth loved to share knowledge. His ability to pick the winners by studying the Racing Post on the way to the races could have done with a little more work though. Gareth had the rare ability to talk to anyone and he frequently did! What really set him apart was that he listened, remembered and acted. So many people have been the recipients of his generosity, whether it be a kind word, a piece of professional advice or something a little more substantial. Gareth was proud of his professional and personal achievements and his Welsh heritage but it was his growing family that made him most proud. There’s many things that Gareth left us but one of our most treasured will be that we can call the Jones family our friends. Gareth, you will be missed but I’m pretty sure that wherever you may be that you will find a pub, stand at the bar, find new. friends and make everyone’s life richer. Perhaps we’ll see you there for quick pint sometime. I know that you will be the first one to get a round in!
