I met Gareth over a decade ago when I was on the faculty of IE Business School in Madrid and Gareth joined us as a visiting professor. Of course, like so many of us, I had read “Why should” and was intimated before meeting Gareth in person. Of course, he couldn’t have been a nicer or kinder person. Not only did I immediately take to his zest for life, his love for a good pint and football, but over a few interactions he became a true mentor. I am 25 years his junior, not a leadership professor, and we weren’t project collaborators. And yet, he went out of his way to share advice, give me guidance on how to design and deliver effective executive education, and above all deliberately sought to bolster my confidence in my own abilities. He was incredibly generous. To be taken seriously, to be encouraged in this way by a man who I admired, left an indelible mark. I owe Gareth a lot and I am so, so sorry that I never got to tell him ‘thank you’ in person. My sincere condolences. I am so very sorry for your loss. Davis Bach (IMD Lausanne)
