I am deeply saddened to learn of Gareth's departure from this life and the tragic circumstances of it. I can only think of you all and recognise and share your sorrow. I had known Gareth since we were both post-graduate students at the University of Kent. From there, our paths crossed regularly and rewardingly, both professionally and socially, and we could share our mutual interests in good conversation. Every time we met, Gareth's acute intelligence, knowledge, insight and wit, as well as his warmth, humanity, kindness and humility, always shone through. It was a pleasure and a privilege to have known him. May he rest in peace and may you, in time, take comfort from sharing a life so well lived.
