Gareth - that smile and respect

Created by John 3 years ago

Gareth,

We have had a professional relationship for some 20 years plus, but it was always far more than that. i always looked forward to our meetings for that smile as you greeted us. I looked forward to them because tax was just one small part of it, and the rest was us all discussing:

the problems facing the world

football (of course) with you a devoted Spurs fan, myself Chelsea, and Rob with West Ham

Books - so many recommendations that i am still working my way through them

Family - where everyone was - school then uni then travelling. Last time we met you offered to assist my daughter with work placement even though you had not met her. That was a reflection of your kindness.

You always showed total respect towards all my colleagues no matter what their status was and that is clearly a common theme amongst the tributes i have read. You had time for people no matter who they were.

We were all impressed with your intellect whilst at the same time you exuded humbleness, always being yourself. The main reason why i continue to carry on my work is because of people like yourself, always a pleasure to see and talk to, always trusting and never causing a problem.

Mario and I have not stopped reminiscing about our times with you, the anecdotes and that smile. I was fortunate that you walked into the old East Finchley office when you lived in Muswell Hill, and it has been my privilege to have known you.

I may even support Spurs for the rest of the season!

Rest in peace.
