A kind and special person

My friendship with Gareth and Shirl started when I met Robbie walking Clara in Hove Park. Pretty soon I felt I’d been adopted by his fabulous family. They all made me so welcome in their beautiful home whether I just dropped in with muddy wellies on or whether it was Christmas Day. Gareth could energise the whole room with his smiling eyes and his zest for life.  Ordinary mornings became special as he prepared and cooked impromptu breakfast feasts or decided we would take a walk to a favourite shop for a kipper sandwich. He loved to share the things that made him happy and he loved to support local businesses. He liked to encourage people and to see them do well.  He was so generous with his time, his advice, his thoughtfulness.  Gareth appreciated the delicious things in life but mostly the important things, friends, family, people, nature, politics, football, music, dogs - all the things that make life meaningful and fun.  Although he was so successful he was completely down to earth and easy to talk to. He had such a genuine interest in other people and when we read all the tributes that have been written it is clear that he made the world a better place for everyone he met. His positivity and friendliness rubbed off on everyone. For the world to lose him is a terrible tragedy. To have known Gareth was life changing and to call him a friend was a privilege. He lives on in Rhian, Gemma and Robbie. They are his finest legacy to us all.  Rest in peace now Gareth and feel the love that everyone is sending your way ❤️
