HR, Spurs, and one of the funniest nights out of my life

Created by Nick 2 years ago

I come to this really late, having just found out when i looked up  Gareth to talk about a work idea.  He was always ready to listen to my ideas around HR, especially when a discussion of these ideas co-incided with watching Spurs and having a pint.  I was lucky to meet Gareth in Mallorca, where we were both speaking at an event for TUI Holidays HR leaders.  He gave me some pithy and wholly accurate advice on how to improve my public speaking, and suggested we discuss later over a drink.  We arranged a dinner by the sea for all the speakers, and when everyone else dropped out decided we'd carry on anyway despite short acquaintance.  We'd only been sat down about 3 minutes before we discovered we both liked a night out, were happy to order wine in multiples of bottles, and had seats 20 rows apart in the South Stand at White Hart Lane.  One of the funniest nights out of my life followed discussing Cliff Jones and Gareth Bale, the best places to watch Spurs away, which ended up with us sat in a transvestite bar talking about Spurs again because it was the last bar open and it was now too late to go to bed before a morning flight.

Several meetings at Spurs followed.  My face always lit up when i saw him in the crowd.  What a wonderful man to have met, so sorry for the loss to all of you who knew him well and were close family and friends.
